AHA in 1999, executed an emergency intervention in response to the Algerian earthquake. An earthquake hit northwest Algeria killing 22 people and approximately destroying 3,000 houses and affecting 5,000 families.
AHA provided emergency healthcare to affected population. Algeria's western region has been hit by several earthquakes in the past, the deadliest of which was in 1980 when at least 2,590 people were killed in an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale.
