The African Union (AU) recognized Africa Humanitarian Action (AHA) for its “contribution and solidarity in the fight against Ebola”.
A recognition plaque was presented by the current Chairperson of the AU, H.E. Mr. Idriss Deby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad and by Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Chairperson AU Commission, to AHA’s Founding President, Dr. Dawit Zawde, during the closing ceremony of the African Union’s 26th Summit in the presence of African Heads of States on 31 January 2016.
During the ceremony, it was reiterated that AHA was the first to respond to the commission’s call for medical staffs. Throughout the ASEOWA mission, AHA staffs worked at various capacities on the ground in the affected countries and at Head Office level with the AU Team in Addis Ababa.
AHA was further acknowledged and Dr. Zawde commended for “establishing a truly African humanitarian organization”.
Following the ceremony, the chairperson of the AUC hosted a luncheon in honor of the efforts against Ebola attended by Heads of State, Government and partners that contributed to the African Union Support to the Ebola Outbreak in West Africa (ASEOWA).
