AHA has opened the Harper field-office, expanding its Liberian operations to Maryland County. The primarily aims to set up a healthcare programme foran estimated 8,500 refugees from Côte d’Ivoire that reside in the Little Wlebo Refugee Camp, located 15 km away from Harper city.
Following a smooth transition from previous healthcare providers, AHA quickly consolidated staffing and partner referral pathways in the camp clinic and also ensured that Harper City’s refugee health program was incorporated fully into Liberian National and County level health-planning.
AHA’s presence in Maryland County, which is based on an agreement with UNHCR, also provides an opportunity to assess and assist the County’s health delivery system, provided by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW) and implemented by the County Health Team, along with other healthcare partners which include UN agencies (WHO, UNICEF) and other NGOs.
