Life-saving emergency relief efforts are required in East Africa as morbidity and mortality continues to rise due to the devastating drought. While food aid is an immediate need, shelter for persons internally displaced and crossing borders in search of food and water, medical attention to malnourished persons and adequate water and sanitation facilities are equally required.
AHA is working to facilitate Somali refugees in Ethiopia and has emergency intervention programs underway to address the needs of Somalis affected by the drought from within Somalia. Identified immediate needs are:
• Energy and nutrition supplementary foods
• Malaria prevention kits (such as nets, creams, sprays)
• Water purifiers (such as chlorine tablets)
• Tents for emergency shelters
• Medicines
AHA is accepting material and financial donations to its emergency relief operations in Somalia and Ethiopia. For more information and to contribute to these efforts, contact our Head Office at info@africahumanitarian.org
