On 27 and 28 of October 2016, Mr. Volker Turk, UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, made a two day official visit to Cibetoke Transit Center, Northwest of Bujumbura.
The UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Protection together with Burundian Minister of the Interior and Patriotic Education, the governor of the region Cibetoke and the head of ONPRA (National Office Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons) visited the transit center and were given a brief back ground on the inception of the Cishemer transit center by the Burundi Red Cross, who serves as a camp manager.
Mr. Turk and the government delegates also met with refugees and visited their temporary accommodation. Health Centers managed by Africa Humanitarian Action-AHA were also visited by the Assistant High Commissioner.
Mr. Turk showed his appreciation and commended Africa Humanitarian Action, for the great work being done at the centers.
