Africa Humanitarian Action was founded in 1994. It is an international nongovernmental organization, based on universal humanitarian values, practices, and standards. AHA considers alleviating crisis in Africa is, first and foremost, the responsibility of Africans.
AHA provides humanitarian assistance and development services to populations and communities, notably refugees and displaced persons, which have been affected by instability, disaster, and poverty in Africa. The consistent involvement of local partners in decisions affecting their lives has helped reduce tension and defuse crises, and created equal opportunities.
AHA has played a paramount role in tackling policy issues of concern to both refugees and the organisations assisting them. It has consistently advocated the role and responsibility of African organisations in the search for durable solutions. AHA’s performance and achievements have demonstrated what can be done by African organisations in resolving both emergency and development issues on the continent.
