Our 2009 Annual Report Available Online |

Africa Humanitarian Action’s 2009 Annual Report is now available online. The report contains an overview of our recent work, providing humanitarian aid and assistance to affected populations throughout Africa, along with our certified financial accounts for the period.
We hope that you will take a few moments to read the report and trust that you will find it informative. The content demonstrates AHA’s continued commitment to alleviating human suffering, building on the strength of African people to solve African problems.

AHA Finalizes UNHCR’s Annual Consultation Report |
|
|
On 29 June – 01 July 2010, UNHCR held its Annual Consultations with NGOs in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme of “National Partners: Providers of First Resort”. AHA’s Head of Programmes, Misikir Tilahun (J.D.), served as this year’s Rapporteur to the Annual Consultations on behalf of NGOs. The report contains several important recommendations which were generated during seven thematic and five regional sessions. UNHCR is sending the report to its Executive Committee (ExCom) Member States prior to the ExCom meeting scheduled for 4-8 October 2010 in Geneva. The Rapporteur will also present the report during the ExCom meeting.

AHA Signs a Status Agreement with Ethiopia’s MoFA
Africa Humanitarian Action (AHA) is pleased to announce that it has today signed a Head Office Status Agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The Agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr. Tekeda Alemu, State Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Dawit Zawde, President of AHA.
At the signing, Dr. Tekeda expressed his appreciation for the work AHA has been doing throughout Africa and pledged the Ministry’s continued assistance.
Dr. Dawit on his part expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support and collaboration, and committed to build on AHA’s African roots to strengthen and enhance its continental reach with added vigour.
Established in 1994, AHA is an international non-governmental organisation providing emergency relief and recovery, healthcare, gender-based violence prevention and response, capacity building and advocacy programmes.
AHA works to attain its vision of an African continent which can advance and sustain human development and human security of its populations, communities and individuals. It has its footprints in 17 African countries.
AHA’s mission is to respond to human development needs and complex emergencies in Africa; to enhance the coping and adaptive capacity of communities at risk; and to advocate through dissemination of strategic information globally on humanitarian issues concerning Africa. |

AHA Extends Its Services into Cameroon |
|
|
AHA has expanded into Cameroon in the aim of providing primary health care services for the refugees of Central African Republic (CAR). On August 1, 2010, AHA started its preparation for a handover of the 12 Health Centres in Cameroon from the Red Cross following an agreement win the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In order to begin its mission AHA has dispatched expatriate staff and medical doctors to launch the operation. |
